Home Depot Entering the Solar Power Market

One of the concerns that was recently thrown around by solar entrepreneurs is about the future residential solar energy, particular in light of Home Depot’s entry into the solar sales market. Two companies producing AC modules, Westinghouse Solar and Enphase Energy, have decreased the technical requirement of a system. This leads to the question – how will the entry of Home Depot and other big stores into the industry affect the future of the residential solar market?

There are many ways that we can look to answer the questions:

Permits: Home owners now have more access to purchase products and install them, but can they get the permits required? Yes. It typically allows home owners to get electrical permits and home improvement permits to perform work on their home. Whether home owners will actually do this remains the issue. The answer will depend on for a few more variables.

KB Home Believes Solar Power is the Answer

KB HomesCould a solar power system be a standard device in a new home? Yes, please. The mega-homebuilder KB Home has explored energy efficiency in Southern California with the announcement that solar photovoltaic systems will now come standard in ten different new home developments.

Several KB Home communities already include solar energy systems.  Additionally, five more Southern California communities are planned to open within the next two months that include solar power systems.
